Lucy and Lily

Lucy and Lily cheek to cheek

When I became a volunteer at the Feilding SPCA I couldn’t help wanting to take a cat home.
I notice Lilly because her colouring was very similar to a cat I had had in the past.
Every time I went into her room she tried to climb up my leg, asking for a cuddle.
I felt that she chose me as much as I chose her.
For the first week or two she was very ‘clingy’. Every time I sat down she had to be on my lap. My husband got quite jealous so we decided to get a second cat, as company for Lily and so we could have a cat on each lap. John picked Lucy.
Lily has since become much more independent and hardly ever sits on our laps. If she does it is usually on John’s, while Lucy regularly sits on mine. They have become great friends and get upset if they are not both in the same room. They play fight a lot and every morning and evening they have a great game of tag, chasing each other madly around the living room. Lily often carries John’s socks around as if she is carrying a kitten. She likes playing with toffee papers and is quite good at bringing them back to me to be thrown again. She also likes to hide in cardboard boxes. She will lift the lid, climb in and pull the lid down again.

We keep them both indoors all the time. I feel sorry for them when they sit looking out the windows, but we live on a busy street and also all the local cats use our garden and we lost a cat when we moved to Feilding because it was chased off by the local cats.
A short time ago I had a bad leg and borrowed a walker. Lucy thought it made a great jungle gym.

Lily has a fascination with water. Every time I turn the tap on in the bathroom basin she comes running and tries to catch the water as it comes out of the tap.

Lily and Lucy have made such a difference. They are great anti-depressants and stroking them is good for the blood pressure. They cheer us up in the morning as we sit over breakfast and laugh at their game of tag. It can be difficult getting out of the house without them escaping but they are so pleased when we come home. Lucy is quite talkative and nags when she wants food. Lily only vocalises when she is looking for Lucy. I have always said that a house isn’t a home without a cat. I wouldn’t be without them!
